Hello French addict !
After starting her career in the luxury industry, Elsa Randé launched her first furniture line in 2012. The designer then chose to use lanyard string as the key material for her creations, and associate it with noble materials chosen for their technical and esthetic qualities, such as solid oak or Valchromat, an organically dyed wood fiber panel. Thanks to her innovative wood-stitching technique, she combines these to materials with unparalleled elegance.
5 questions to the designer
Who are you?
I am a furniture designer; I live and work in Paris. I started my own brand of furniture in 2012, after completing product design studies and working several jobs in the luxury industry.
Give us 3 words that describe your universe.
Poetic, colorful et playful.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I draw inspiration from my daily life — whether it’s a combination of colors, geometric forms that surround me, places, moments… I am also deeply inspired by Scandinavian design.
Where do you make your products?
All my pieces are made in France; I work with traditional cabinetmakers for all wooden parts and lampshade makers for metallic structures. I then weave in the threads in my workshop in Paris.
“Made in France”: why that choice?
It was essential for me to fully integrate my ethical beliefs into my projects. Manufacturing in France is a priority for me, which is why I work exclusively with French craftsmen, to benefit from their traditional skills and to make my products eco-responsible, by limiting shipping constraints for example. I also strive to use raw materials that are made in France and in the EU, and to create objects that are ecological in their very conception, by using sustainable resources such as solid oak, and simple forms that, I hope, will stand the test of time.
