Andrée Sorant

ANDRÉE SORANT

As a tribute to her maternal grandmother, an incarnation of elegance and virtuoso tango dancer, Louise Motte chose the name Andrée Sorant for her brand of accessories, characterized by excellence and luxury down to the smallest detail, a level of quality that is achieved with the help of traditional craftsmanship from the Lyon region, where all her scarves are created and printed. Through her textile research and her endeavor to reinterpret classic accessories, Louise Motte also created the “Col Claude”, a unisex accessory inspired by the Twist scarf of the 1960s that offers an alternative to bow ties and neckties. Available in textile or leather, it can be worn under a shirt collar or as a plastron necklace for women. More than just an accessory, Andrée Sorant collars act as a sophisticated and contemporary signature. Drawing from traditional men and women’s accessories, they enhance their symbolism and recreate them as modern icons.

5 questions to the designer

Who are you?
Louise, fashion designer and creator of the “Col Claude”, a unisex accessory that offers an alternative to bow ties, neckties and ascot ties.

Give us 3 words that describe your universe.
Graphic, retro-chic, modern.

Where do you get your inspiration?
Anywhere really. A city, an art exhibition, a picture, a landscape, a movie… But I also have long-standing influences, such as architecture, modern painting, pictures of my grandmother (my brand is named after her) and her time — the 1950s…

Where do you make your products?
In Roubaix and Lyon, two historical landmarks of French textile production.

“Made in France”: why that choice?
To be coherent with my ethical beliefs. When I worked for the retail industry, I felt at odds with “disposable fashion”; so when I started my first line of accessories, I did not think twice about producing in France. As a creator, I believe it is crucial to honor and preserve quality and traditional skills.
