MAURICETTE
“Mauricette” is Victoire de Vilmorin’s project. After getting her degree in business studies, she decided to change paths. As she had a passion for fashion and second-hand, recycled and handmade objects, she was first attracted to fabric. She gained some experience in sewing and fashion and then started creating small series of clutch bags that she sold to her friends and family. These were so successful that she decided to launch her own brand in 2008. Today, Mauricette is a whole line of graphic, retro-inspired fabric accessories: clutch bags, change purses, pouches… Everything is handmade in the heart of Paris!
5 questions to the designer
Who are you?
My name is Victoire de Vilmorin, I am 33 years old and I started my brand, Mauricette, a little over 8 years ago, after working in fashion for some time. I have been living in Montmartre for more than 5 years, I just had a baby, and I love good jokes, good dinners and good wine!
Give us 3 words that describe your universe.
Refined, colorful, retro.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I love beautiful objects, old stuff, and fabrics, especially printed fabrics, which are my main source of inspiration. I am obviously inspired by fashion and trends as well - one has to keep up to date… And then there’s other people, the streets, life!
Where do you make your products?
All Mauricette products are made in France by my team and myself, in a little atelier in the heart of Paris.
“Made in France”: why that choice?
For me, it was out of the question to have the products made elsewhere. It is a question of quality, but I also like the idea of working with local people. It allows me to remain as close as possible to the product, make small series and monitor everything, as I am a bit of a control freak…
