Hello French addict !

Les Jouets Libres aim to combine playfulness and child development: beyond their inventive graphic design, all Jouets Libres toys are created with educational values in mind. According to their age, children are encouraged to devise their own rules while playing, which helps them grow as individuals.

5 questions to the designer

How did the Jouets Libres adventure begin?
4 years ago, my son asked me to make a construction set for him to play with his marbles and figures. After tinkering for a while in my garage, I presented my creation to my little tester, and it was a complete success. At the sight of his enthusiasm, the idea of making an actual business out of it quickly matured in my mind - I already had the desire to start my own company, all I needed was a trigger, and that was it! I convinced one of my friends, a graphic designer, to work with me on the illustrations of our games. Then my wife, who worked as a bookseller, joined us.

Give us 3 words that describe your universe.
Design, ecology, imagination.

Where do you get your inspiration?
We love art in general (painting, photography, literature…) and graphic design in particular. Walking in the streets of Paris, visiting museums, admiring nature and landscapes when we travel… These are all opportunities to find inspiration.

Where do you make your products?
We work with artisans who perpetuate a traditional know-how, each in their own domain. All wooden parts of our toys are made in wood turneries in the Jura mountains; the wool comes from a textile mill in the French Centre region; clay marbles are produced in the last remaining French factory registered in the Living Heritage records for that category…

“Made in France”: why that choice?
When we started Les Jouets Libres, my natural inclination was to work with French manufacturers, in order to create a relationship based on trust and contribute to the local economy. I also wanted to add an ecological dimension by carefully selecting the raw materials we use. To me, finding sustainable ways to contribute to the economy is absolutely crucial.
