Hello French addict !

LA CORVETTE

La Corvette is the number one reference for Marseille soap since 1894! The look of this ancestral brand has been recently revamped to bring it up to date, combining Marseillaise tradition with modernity. Very popular in France and abroad, Marseille soap is a simple product with a centuries-old reputation for its beauty, softness for the skin and inimitable smell. Composed of vegetable oils, it is also a very eco-friendly product.

5 questions to the designer

Who are you?
The Savonnerie du Midi was created in 1894. It is one of the oldest soap makers in Marseille.

Give us 3 words that describe your universe.
Authentic, ecological and modern.

How do you succeed in combining tradition and modernity?
The “La Corvette” brand has been distributed by the Savonnerie du Midi since 1894, without any interruption. When we rebranded La Corvette in 2015, we drew our inspiration form the city of Marseille and its old port, as the success and fame of the Marseille soap are deeply connected to the city’s maritime activity. Around the same time, we obtained the ECOCERT label for our Marseille soaps. Today’s consumers demand transparency about environmental friendliness, and Marseille soap is by its very nature an ecological product.

Isn’t “Marseille soap” a Protected Designation of Origin?
The term “Savon de Marseille” is not protected. Nevertheless, in 2011, the Savonnerie du Midi partnered with three other traditional soap makers and started an organization, the “Union des Professionnels du Savon de Marseille”, that filed a request at the INPI (the French National Institute for Intellectual Property) so that the specificity of the Marseille soap may be acknowledged through an official designation of origin.

Where and how do you make your soaps?
Our Marseille soaps are made in Marseille, according to the charter issued by the Union des Professionnels du Savon de Marseille: they are saponified in the Marseille area, in cauldrons; they contain no additives, and all the oils we use are 100% vegetable.

“Made in France”: why that choice?
We are located in Marseille and we believe it is essential to preserve our know-how and our industrial and artisanal structures. Moreover, our consumers expect us to produce locally.
